Facility Maintenance Technician
Supporting community well-being through safe, functional, and dignified spaces.

Position Overview
At GAAMHA, our facilities are more than buildings—they're places where healing, connection, and purpose take root. The Facility Maintenance Technician (FMT) plays a vital role in ensuring that these spaces are safe, welcoming, and fully functional for the people we serve and the staff who support them.
With a sharp eye for detail and a deep sense of accountability, the FMT leads the charge in preventive maintenance, safety compliance, and emergency response across all GAAMHA properties. This role is hands-on, community-focused, and essential to fulfilling our mission of redefining community support.

What You'll Do
  • Carry out ongoing preventive maintenance and repairs for mechanical, electrical, HVAC, fire alarm, and security systems across all GAAMHA properties.
  • Ensure daily operation and maintenance of building systems to uphold the safety, comfort, and functionality of the spaces we use to serve our communities.
  • Lead snow removal and ice management efforts—including plowing, shoveling, salting, and sanding—to keep all entrances, sidewalks, and lots safe during inclement weather.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly facility inspections to proactively identify safety or repair needs, ensuring we remain compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Provide prompt response and resolution for facility-related emergencies such as HVAC outages, plumbing failures, electrical disruptions, fire/security alarms, or flooding—even during off-hours or weekends as needed.
  • Perform general repairs and facility upgrades including painting, drywall, carpentry, minor plumbing, and basic electrical work with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Reconfigure office and program spaces to meet changing needs, using equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, and power tools.
  • Maintain organized records of building conditions, repairs, and safety checks; provide reports and recommendations to the Facilities Supervisor.
  • Purchase supplies in a cost-conscious manner and submit receipts in a timely fashion.
  • Communicate with the Facilities Supervisor about equipment or facility needs, ensuring timely action and alignment with budget and safety standards.
  • Support special facilities projects and other duties as assigned—always focused on delivering real impact.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2–5 years of experience in facilities maintenance, property management, or skilled trades.
  • OSHA 10 Certification preferred (or willingness to complete within 90 days of hire).
  • Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Must have valid Massachusetts driver’s license and an acceptable CORI/background check.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a human services setting that prioritizes respect, humility, and community integration.

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, lift and move objects up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to access tight or enclosed spaces, and use personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks and respirators, when required.
  • Work includes both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions.

Schedule
  • Monday–Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Occasional on-call availability for nights, weekends, and emergencies.
